Don’t skip breakfast

Too many of us wake up in the morning, skip breakfast and then when have a sugar saturated snack sometime in the late morning. Have a healthy breakfast, such as oatmeal and a banana for constant and consistent energy throughout the day.

Eat your food more slowly

As food enters our stomach there is a delay of several minutes between the digestion process being fulfilled and the hunger impulse being satisfied. By eating more slowly, we give our brain more time to receive the signal that we are now full.

Drink more water

The thirst impulse is transmitted and interpreted as hunger. Drink water, and you will probably notice that your appetite diminishes.

Use smaller plates

Strange but true! When presented with a plate of food, we do not tend to make a distinction between differences in the size of the portions between different sized plates. Therefore, you can get away with using a smaller plate, with less food on it, and still feel full.

Exercise regularly

Weight lifting is perfect for the development of muscle tissue which requires more calories than fat. Therefore, as you become more toned, the easier you will find it to maintain the edge.

Reduce your intake of “bad” carbohydrates

Complex carbohydrates, the likes of oatmeal and spinach are very good for you, as they provide plenty of energy. Simple carbs, found in cakes, pastries and white bread are not so positive or helpful.

Maintain a food journal

Identify any and all triggers that compel you to binge eat, and gorge yourself on fatty foods in an attempt to alleviate your low mood. That way, you can avoid the triggers from happening in the first instance.
